The shark, or manō, has been woven into the fabric of Hawaiian culture for a very long time. Some Hawaiians worshiped, cared for and protected sharks as 'aumakua, or family gods, while others viewed sharks as an important source of food and tools. Today, locals continue to respect and care for the manō knowing its presence is vital for the balance and health of our oceans.
